Eileen’s Special Cheesecake
Eileen’s Special Cheesecake is located in SoHo, in a somewhat hidden street, which is not even usually passed by the people who live here. The fact that it’s a little hidden gives it a special character. The store’s founder, Eileen, has been offering one of the best cheesecakes in New York for more than 35 years. The shop is very cosy and adorned with photos of famous clients, articles written about their cakes, and artwork by local artists. Their cheesecake is made with cream cheese (unlike many others that use ricotta) and has a fluffy texture. Eileen’s sells whole cakes, but they also have single-serve mini cheesecakes. In the store, you will find cheesecakes of various flavours, as well as other cakes and cookies.

Junior’s New York
Junior’s has been operating in Brooklyn since the middle of the 20th century. Later on, they also added a few popular Manhattan locations around Times Square. Junior’s offers a varied menu of sandwiches, salads, seafood and meat. Be careful about ordering a lot, because the star dish on the menu is the cheesecake. Junior’s owes its fame to this specific dessert; it’s often called one of the best cheesecakes in New York. Their cheesecake is made with cream cheese, cream, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Countless famous people, from presidents to Hollywood stars, have not been able to resist this treat.

Cheesecake Factory in New York
I’m often asked if there’s a Cheesecake Factory in New York. There is a branch of this famous restaurant in New York, but sadly it’s not in Manhattan. If you can’t imagine your New York trip without tasting one of their more than 30 flavours of cheesecake, you can take the subway to the Cheesecake Factory in Queens. Take trains M and R from Times Square, they will take you there in about half an hour. Another Cheesecake Factory can be found right across the Hudson, in New Jersey. To get there, you can take the PATH to Journal Square and get off at Newport Station. From the station, it’s a five-minute walk.
Eric’s Tip: If you take the PATH to the Cheesecake Factory in New Jersey you can also choose to get off at the first stop after leaving Manhattan, called Exchange Place. From there you can walk to the restaurant via the boardwalk on the Hudson, which offers great views of the Manhattan skyline. It’s a safe walking route, also after dinner, which takes around 20 minutes. -
Carlo’s Bakery
One of America’s most famous pastry chefs, Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, also offers some great cheesecakes. In his Carlo’s Bake Shops he sells a huge selection of cakes and pastries, including cheesecake in all kinds of flavours. You can find Carlo’s Bakery in Manhattan at Times Square. The original bakery is located in New Jersey.
