Before the match, a lot is going on outside the UBS Arena. You can play hockey games like shooting a puck, play beer pong, enjoy music, hang out at the outdoor fire pits and get something to eat or drink from one of the many vendors. If you want to enjoy this, arrive at least an hour before the game starts. Attending a New York Islanders hockey match is truly a local experience.
What Are Good Seats at a New York Islanders Game?
Good seats at an ice hockey game are always close to the rink, as the puck is small. But don’t forget that you also come to watch live ice hockey and enjoy the experience.
- Sections 102 to 106 and 112 to 117: The best seats at UBS Arena are in sections 102 to 106 and 112 to 117.
- 200 and 300 series: These are the rows above those. It’ll be cheaper, but aim for a lower row: The lower the row number, the closer you will be to the ice.

How to get to UBS Arena?
You can get to UBS Arena by taking the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train from Grand Central or Penn Station in Manhattan. Take the yellow Hempstead train straight to Elmont-UBS Arena station. The train will take you there in 30 minutes. From Elmont station, you walk ten minutes to the arena.
Or you can take a Lyft. If you’re going to the arena with several people, this ride-sharing app could be cheaper than taking the train, especially for the way back to the city.
When do I need to be at the arena?
I would suggest arriving at the arena 30 – 60 minutes before the game starts. Or arrive earlier to get a taste of the atmosphere inside and outside the arena. There’s a great café inside where you can enjoy the views of the area. You can also walk around the whole arena and get food, drinks and merchandise. Try to be at your seat about 10 minutes before the game starts.
How to get back to Manhattan
To get back to Manhattan after the match, you have the same two options as for arriving at the arena.
