Walking Routes
Do you have any specific wishes for your tour? Let Mirjam know in advance so she can plan the route accordingly. Below are a few examples of possible walking routes.
Experience the Christmas spirit in New York
If you are in New York between November 26 and January 6, the guide can give you a taste of the Christmas atmosphere in New York. There are two different Christmas tours possible. The first is in Manhattan. The guide will take you to the most beautiful Christmas decorations in New York and to the nicest Christmas markets, where you can stroll around at your own pace.
As a second option, you can choose to have the guide take you to Dyker Heights in Brooklyn. This district is known for its elaborately decorated houses and is most reminiscent of the movie Home Alone. This tour requires a longer travel time and a MetroCard. For both tours, the starting point is determined in consultation with the guide.
Little Italy, Chinatown and SoHo
Learn more about the Italian and Chinese influences in New York as you walk through Little Italy and Chinatown. While in Chinatown, taste some delicious dumplings or dim sum and continue to your next destination with a full stomach: SoHo. Here, you’ll see impressive architecture and a wealth of attractive storefronts, galleries and restaurants in the neighbourhood. From there, you’ll be moving on via my favourite neighbourhood, Greenwich Village, to the Meatpacking District where you can enjoy views from High Line Park. This urban park, built on a disused 2.3 kilometre elevated train track, enables you to see New York from a different perspective. This tour ends at Hudson Yards, Manhattan’s latest neighbourhood, where the highest outdoor observation deck Edge is located.
Midtown Manhattan
Times Square is one of the most famous and impressive places in New York and therefore, a good starting point for your tour. You will head towards Downtown, passing, among other places, Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. After arriving on Broadway, you’ll see the striking, triangular Flatiron Building right in front of you. Via Fifth Avenue, you will then walk back up to see Bryant Park, the Public Library, not to mention, the Empire State Building! Following a small detour to see inside the beautiful Grand Central Terminal, the tour will end on Fifth Avenue; by Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Do you like to shop? Then this is an ideal starting point for an afternoon of retail therapy!
Lower Manhattan
During this tour, Mirjam will tell you about some of the history of New York. After being collected at your hotel she will take you, by subway to TriBeCa: one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods to live in New York. You’ll then continue on foot to the Financial District. See the buildings around you getting higher and higher along the way. You will stop at Ground Zero where you will hear more about the events around 9/11 and the reconstruction of the area. Via the famous Charging Bull, you’ll continue to Battery Park, where you can wave to Lady Liberty in the distance. Then after taking the subway over to Brooklyn Bridge Park, you will have an indescribably beautiful view of the city. The cherry on the cake: the walk back to Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge, where you can further enjoy the amazing skyline.
Dumbo in Brooklyn
This tour will take you over the Brooklyn Bridge on foot and into Dumbo. Brooklyn is known for playing a major role in the Industrial Revolution, and that same entrepreneurial spirit is still prominent. The Dumbo neighbourhood of Brooklyn, once warehouses, is nowadays a very popular area. You’ll visit the Empire Stores and Brooklyn Bridge Park with stunning views of Manhattan. Explore NYC’s beloved borough and its ethnic diversity.
