As Chelsea Market is a covered market, it differs from most other markets in New York. The building dates back to 1890 and was originally a biscuit factory. It is, in fact, the place where the famous Oreo cookies were invented. The factory no longer exists, but the building still has an industrial feel.

Eric’s Tip: “I love visiting Chelsea Market, but it can get quite busy around lunchtime. Are you flexible? If so, try going a bit earlier or later to avoid the worst of the crowds. There are spacious, clean toilets on the lower level, making this a handy spot for a toilet break.”
