Hotels on Times Square
Staying at one of the hotels on Times Square gives you an excellent base for your first trip to New York. You’ll be in the heart of Manhattan and can explore the entire city from there. There are many attractions within walking distance and plenty of subway stations nearby. Discover Times Square, a place known for its billboards, late-night shops and characters in various costumes.

Hotels on Times Square
When you stay at a hotel on Times Square, you are right in the heart of where it all happens. It is one of the most visited places in New York, and there are always things to do in Times Square! Besides being right in the centre of the city, it is also a convenient spot, with the many subway lines passing through it, making it easy to travel from A to B.
I have stayed at least 3 nights in each of the hotels on this list, so I can give you my honest opinion. The number one is not necessarily my favourite; I love all these hotels and can recommend them to everyone. People also travel differently, and that’s why there’s a perfect hotel for everyone!

New York Marriott Marquis
The Marriott Marquis is located in the middle of Times Square and the hotel offers spacious rooms with great views. The lobby and one of the three restaurants overlook Times Square. This is also where a New Year’s Eve party is held each year, and you can see the famous ‘ball drop’ with your own eyes.
What makes this hotel unique are the special lifts: they are partly made of glass, so you can view the whole hotel as you go up and down.

The Knickerbocker
The Knickerbocker is a hotel on 42nd Street, located just on the edge of Times Square. Over the years, I have stayed here a few times, and it’s always been great. The building itself is beautiful and has a prominent location, with a subway station right outside the door. Bryant Park is just a block away and you can walk straight out into Times Square. This 5-star hotel, and especially the rooms, have a modern Scandinavian feel, and there is also a rooftop bar.

Eric’s Tip: “Sometimes this hotel has excellent deals, making it relatively cheap for a 5-star hotel in such a good location. If you spot a good price, I recommend not waiting too long to book your hotel night in Times Square.”

Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel
Located in the middle of Times Square, the Renaissance Hotel has rooms with terraces that overlook 7th Avenue. A unique part of the hotel is the R Lounge bar and restaurant, where you can have breakfast in the morning and something to eat and/or drink in the evening, all while enjoying spectacular views of Times Square. This hotel is also a good base for exploring New York, as the Hop on Hop off Bus stops right in front.

Hard Rock Hotel New York
The Hard Rock Hotel in New York is a good place to stay for music lovers. As with the Hard Rock Café, you can find all kinds of music memorabilia throughout the hotel. You can even have a Fender guitar brought to your room! The rooms feel luxurious and are fully equipped.
There are live performances in the restaurant and the rooftop bar, RT60, where you also have partial views of Times Square. It’s a great place to end the day with a drink.

Hotel Edison
Hotel Edison is a truly classic New York hotel on a side street off Times Square, just a minute’s walk away from the hustle and bustle. It is often slightly more affordable, making it a good option for a hotel around Times Square. You can book a room here with a terrace, which is quite unique for New York. Also, breakfast is always included!

Hampton Inn, Home2 Suites and Motto
These three hotels are all in the same building: Hampton Inn by Hilton, Home2 Suites by Hilton and Motto by Hilton. These Times Square hotels are often reasonably priced for the location, making them a good option for those travelling on a budget. Each hotel has nice, modern rooms. As there are several hotels in this building, all the hotel guests have breakfast in the same place. I did often have to wait a long time for the lifts, but for the price it is worth the wait. You can walk straight into Times Square from these hotels.

The Times Square EDITION New York
Imagine yourself in luxury at EDITION: a five-star hotel in Times Square where you always get a high level of service. There are beautiful rooms, many of which offer views of Times Square or the city. The hotel has three restaurants, each with unique elements. The Terrace and Outdoor Gardens look out over the city, and Paradise Club is a high-class venue.

Tempo by Hilton New York Times Square
The Tempo Hilton in Times Square is located in the TSX Broadway building. Formerly called DoubleTree by Hilton, this Times Square hotel was completely remodelled and reopened in 2023 under its current name. Because the hotel is fairly new, the rooms are very nice, with floor-to-ceiling windows. Book a room with a view of Times Square so you can marvel at it all day long. You can use the fitness centre or grab a bite to eat at the restaurant.

Riu Plaza
New York is home to two Riu Plaza hotels, and both are located near Times Square. Hotel Riu Plaza Manhattan Times Square is the one closest to Times Square: just walk down the street and you are there! Hotel Riu Plaza New York Times Square is located on 8th Avenue, one block from Times Square. It’s about a five-minute walk.
Both hotels are standard, but just in a slightly higher segment. Because the hotels are used in packages from tour operators, you come across them often. It is a good option if the price is right!

Pod Times Square
In addition to the hotels located directly in Times Square, there are numerous hotels close to Times Square. With some just a 10-minute walk away.
A great example is Pod Times Square. This hotel can be found near Port Authority, New York’s main bus station. It is a good location, just outside the hustle and bustle, but still right in the centre. It is also one of the cheapest options in the area. The rooms are small, which also makes it a good option if you are travelling to New York alone.
