War Horse on Broadway New York
War Horse the musical is based on the eponymous book published in 1982 by Michael Morpurgo. Production has only been running since 2011 on Broadway, but has received 5 Tony Awards and several other awards and nominations that same year! A highlight was the crowning of the exceptionally realistic dolls used (especially the horses) with two special awards.
The musical follows the horse Joey, at the beginning of the First World War as he is shipped to France, and the journey of his original owner (the young Albert Narracott) on his mission to regain his beloved horse.
This appears to be a dangerous mission; Albert is too young for the army, but he comes into a situation where he serves both in the British and the German army. War Horse is described as an emotional roller coaster, it is a story of loyalty, love, bravery, sadness and hope all intertwined.
There is a lot of positive response to War Horse. The New York Times called the performance “theatrical magic” and USA Today gives the show “four out of four stars”. Both the press and the audience are impressed with the stunning visual effects. The story of the musical may be simple, but it is depicted in a strong and convincing way. The beautiful original music, performed by an excellent orchestra, creates a fantastic contribution to the overall atmosphere of the show. The beautifully engineered, realistic-looking horses and of course the great performance of the actors themselves make War Horse a spectacle!
The show is perfect for both older and younger generations alike – a real family show! This should not be missed when visiting Broadway in New York!
