A Classic Musical Comedy
Funny Girl tells the story of Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side who dreams of a life on stage. No one believed she would ever become a star, but she will turn into one of the most beloved performers in history. The comedy dazzles with songs such as “Don’t Rain on my Parade”, “I am the Greatest Star” and “People”.
The Story of Fanny Brice
The musical takes place around the time of World War I in New York. Even though Fanny gets her first role in a show, people around her try to discourage her from acting, as she doesn’t conform to typical beauty standards. Although the show turns into a big mess, the audience finds it hilarious and loves Fanny. Six months later her dream of becoming a member of the Ziegfeld Follies comes true. She then meets Nicky Arnstein, who promises that if he wins lots of money by playing poker, they will get married. Eventually, they get married, move into a mansion, and have a daughter together, Sadie. But Nick’s love for gambling causes many problems…
